Kuo: Apple drops plans for OLED iPad Air, new 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED still coming in 2022

Lastly, in line with expectations that the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air will quickly switch to mini-LED, Kuo states that MacBooks will be the primary driver of mini-LED shipments for the foreseeable future. Kuo reported in March that Apple might add mini-LED to the MacBook Air as quickly as 2022.

Next, the expert says that “lighter, thinner, and foldable styles are the major long-lasting trends for tablet-type products over the next 3– 5 years.” Apple is reportedly continuing to “research and develop new display screen innovations for tablet-type products,” more details are unclear.

While reports had recommended that Apple would release an iPad Air with an OLED display screen sometime next year, that no longer seems the case. According to a brand-new investor note from dependable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo seen by 9to5Mac, Apple now prepares to stick with LCD technology in 2022.

Kuo reported on Apples strategies to shift the iPad Air to OLED back in March, discussing that mini-LED technology would be booked for the higher-end “Pro” devices due to its greater rate and better protection versus burn.

In todays report, however, Kuo states that the business has actually “canceled its strategies to release an OLED iPad Air in 2022 since the performance and expense might not meet Apples requirements.” Therefore, Kuo expects the iPad Air will continue to utilize TFT-LCD technology in 2022.

Apple first embraced mini-LED innovation in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched previously this year and its likewise expected to come soon to the upcoming 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pros. According to Kuo, Apple will also introduce an 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED at some point in 2022.
